NEW ZEALAND PRINCIPALS' FEDERATION PRINCIPLES

A successful publicly funded education system will influence and contribute to a prosperous country 


Schools have a social responsibility to foster and support local communities to provide a safe, nurturing environment that maximises educational opportunities


Collaborative and constructive working relationships between the education sector and government are critical to the successful implementation of education policy
Schools will receive fair, equitable and adequate resourcing to enable them to achieve agreed educational aims and outcomes
Responsibility for the public investment in education should be transparent and trustworthy
Children should be equipped with appropriate lifelong competencies
New Zealanders can expect teachers to provide a high quality relevant curriculum and inclusive public education system
The governance and management of schools should be vested within local communities and Boards of Trustees
Schools will honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Schools will be led by effective principals

Manaakitanga -  care, respect, aroha, altruism

Ethics:  Promote high professional standards and ethics

Social Responsibility: Advocate for children to be provided with the social conditions that optimise their educational potential 



Teacher Capability: Advocate for New Zealand schools to be staffed by highly skilled, quality trained teachers who meet all the registration requirements and the professional standards set by the New Zealand Teachers’ Council and are committed to student learning, on-going professional development and educational achievement
Curriculum: Protect and enhance a rich curriculum
Achievement:  Support lifting the achievement of all New Zealand children 
Professional Development: Provide and support high quality professional development for principals
Resourcing: Advocate for schools to receive fair, equitable and adequate resourcing
Advocacy: Work collaboratively with all stake holders to influence and enhance education
Te Tiriti o Waitangi: Provide leadership to support and strengthen biculturalism in New Zealand schools
